The Eyes Have It During Vision Research Month

Sometimes we don't realize just how vital the health of our eyes is to our overall function. The condition of our bodies can significantly affect the health of our eyes. June is Vision Research Month and a time to improve our knowledge about the eyes and how they function.

The National Eye Institute (NEI) was established by Congress in 1968 to protect and prolong the vision of the American people. NEI research leads to sight-saving treatments, reduce visual impairment and blindness, and improve the quality of life for people of all ages. The mission of the NEI is to “conduct and support research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs with respect to blinding eye diseases, visual disorders, mechanisms of visual function, preservation of sight, and the special health problems and requirements of the blind." If you by chance have some old prescription eyeglasses lying around, don't throw them away! Donate them to the Lions Club Recycle for Sight program. Click here to find out how you can do something to help someone else see better!
